Community Energy Scotland develops community energy projects across all of Scotland.
CES was formerly Highlands and Islands Community Energy Company which was set up during 2005 as a subsidiary of Highlands and Islands Enterprise. It is now an independant non-profit making charity managed by a voluntary board of directors who employ 23 staff across the whole of Scotland.
Its aim is “for all communities throughout Scotland to be able to generate and use renewable energy for their long term and collective benefit.” It has two main strands of activity; delivery of the community element of the Scottish Government's Communities and Renewables Energy Scheme (CARES), and support for communities wishing to develop small commercial scale projects.
To do this they offer advice and finance for renewable energy projects developed by community groups to benefit their community.
