Data protection and your privacy

Highlands and Islands Enterprise is committed to protecting the privacy of those using our internet sites and the confidentiality of the personal information with which our clients provide us.

Data Protection Act 1998

Highlands and Islands Enterprise is registered under the Data Protection Act 1998 and complies with the act in all our dealings with your personal data.
Highlands and Islands Enterprise will never sell personal information or share personal information with third parties unrelated to it. In HIE, we use the information we collect to serve our clients in the following ways:

  • If you become a subscriber to HIE publications or use our business, skills, community or other economic development services, your name, address, e-mail address and other information on the subscription forms - including online enquiry and registration forms - are kept by us and used to remind you when your next subscription is due, to send you the appropriate publication or to help deliver the relevant support service.
  • We may also use this contact information to let you know about improvements to our sites and services and to your entitlements as a HIE client. If you would rather not receive this information, please e-mail us at [email protected]
  • We do not use cookies (defined below) for collecting user information from the site and we will not collect any information about you except that required for system administration of our web server.

Cookies

Message given to a web browser by a web server. The message is then stored by the browser in a text file called cookie.txt. Each time the browser requests a page from the server, this message is sent back. This cookie's main objective is to help identify users and gather simple statistical information about how the websites are used. This helps us improve and develop our sites according to user needs and preferences.

HIE is constantly reviewing its services to customers and its related business processes. HIE's data protection policies may evolve in parallel with this.
