Calum is the Director of Energy and Low Carbon at Highlands and Islands Enterprise, the Government’s economic and community development agency for the north and north-west of Scotland. He is a Regional Planner with 25 years experience in economic development in the Highlands and Islands. With teenage memories of Salter’s Nodding Ducks in Loch Ness and wind turbine prototypes in Orkney, Calum has a background in technology, innovation and rural development. In his current role he has lead responsibility for ensuring the region maximises the huge economic and community benefits presented by its superb natural resources, ideally located ports, harbours and manufacturing sites and the skilled workforce and supply chain.

During his time at the Highlands and Islands Development Board and HIE, Calum has worked in Planning, the Environment, Strategy, Tourism, Telecoms, Business Information, Industrial Development, R&D, Inward Investment and was Head of Knowledge Economy for eight years.

Calum was born in Thurso and brought up in Shetland and Inverness. He is a graduate of the Glasgow School of Art and Stirling University. Calum is married to Ruth, has three sons, and lives in Cromarty in the Black Isle.
