From Kateryna McKinnon, Offshore Wind Supply Chain Developer Engagement, Highlands and Islands Enterprise

Binding EU 2030 renewable energy targets, cost reduction for offshore wind and better grids – these were the key messages voiced at the annual European Wind Energy event in Barcelona held on 10-13 March. These messages reinforce the need for Europe to work together to reduce dependence on fossil fuels for energy security and sustainable future.

The Exhibition hall was booming with participants from all over Europe and beyond with truly impressive stands and exhibits. Fantastic atmosphere, positive, engaging – full of opportunities for business and networking.

I joined the Scottish Pavilion at the Exhibition hall together with colleagues from Scottish Development International and Scottish Enterprise. 18 businesses from across Scotland joined the stand to showcase the products and services they supply to the industry. The stand generated a significant amount of interest from the international audience looking to learn more about the industry in Scotland. There was a great feeling of a truly joined-up approach from Team Scotland.

The Scottish businesses had a number of positive meetings and engagements, so we expect to see some further great results following the event. There was even an order placed for one of the companies whilst on the stand!

Overall the show was a great success with fantastic opportunities to make business connections with people in the industry. Bring on the EWEA Offshore 2015 in Copenhagen!
