Advantages and Disadvantages of Renewable Energy

Oil prices, in the longer term, are likely to remain high due to increased oil needs from developing economies such as China and India and the production costs required to meet this demand.

Renewable energy will therefore become an integral part of future energy requirements for two reasons: spiralling demand for electricity and the need to tackle climate change due to CO² emissions.

Alternative power sources such as wind, the sun, sea, or replaceable sources such as waste products and crops have been waiting in the wings for some time. Now, though, the twin challenges of technology and economics are being overcome and renewables are stepping out onto the stage as viable alternatives to oil and gas.

The benefits of renewable energy on terms of pollution-free electricity generation cannot be underestimated and, ultimately, will outweigh the current disadvantages associated with renewable energy. Where renewable energy is used already consumers have not been required to make any great lifestyle changes.
