A masterclass on the theme of finance in the energy industry is to take place in Aberdeen on Tuesday 22nd January. The first of three energy masterclasses, the event will include talks by recognised experts in energy investment and a case study company that will demonstrate their experience of the fundraising process.

Supported by Scottish Enterprise Energy, the event is being run by Connect and is designed for companies that are seeking investment or organisations in involved in the fundraising process in the energy sector.

Speakers include: David Sneddon, director of Energy-Related Technology, Scottish Equity Partners; Greg Herrera,partner and investment manager at Energy Ventures; Ingrid Stewart, vice president at Simmons and Co.; and Chris Oliver, managing director at Red Spider Technology.

The masterclass will be highly interactive with content tailored to the specific issues relevant to delegates. Material will include:

• Before you start - Which businesses are right for investment? How do you get to be truly investor ready? How do you put together the information?
• Homework - Who are the right investors and advisors? How do they work with companies?
• Investor Mentality - What does the investor think? What are they looking for?
• Investor Management - How many should be approached? Getting the best result.
• Planning - How long will it take? Preparing for Round 2 and Exit.
• Making the pitch - How to make it work. Investor criteria and tactics for impact.
• Bargaining - What really matters. Shares and structure. Negotiating.
• Getting a result - Strengths and weaknesses, being flexible.
• Investor Relations - Diligence, negotiations, relationships, expectations.
• The Board - Dealing with NXDs and investors.   

The event takes place at the Douglas Hotel, Market Street, Aberdeen, from 10.30 - 14.30.

This is the first in a series of three themed Energy Masterclasses, supported by Scottish Enterprise Energy, taking place between January and March 2008.
