| Winning entries from the Renewables' art competition | |
| 16 May 2007 Way back at the beginning of March, a magazine entitled "Let's Talk Renewables" was distributed to households across the Highlands and Islands. The magazine contained a challenge from the Renewables family for children across the region. Children were asked to send in either an original photograph or drawing which best illustrates, to them, a renewable source of energy. The team received a huge number of entries, all of an excellent standard. Elaine Hanton, head of renewables in HIE said, "We were really impressed by all the entries we received. They came from right across the Highlands and Islands, and deciding on the winners was no easy task. Those we have chosen represent a good mix of technologies, and all the entrants had a very interesting take on renewables."
In the age five to eight category, the winner was Shannon Ross from Rogart Primary School. Rogart also provided the winner in the age nine to eleven category, with Carrie Hayhorst's drawing coming first. Eleanor Moncur from Golspie won the age twelve to fourteen group; while the winner of the age fifteen to eighteen category was Victoria Tinney from Oban.
Both Eleanor and Victoria are have won brand new digital cameras, and Shannon and Carrie will shortly be receiving their boxes full of fun stationery.
