Micro-renewables: your side of the story
31 October 2006

To celebrate the sucessful end of Energy Efficiency Week, HI-energy is keen to hear what you have been up to. Whether you are a homeowner, school or business, we would like you to tell us the steps you are taking to save energy.  Contact us here.

This could be anything as small as turning off the lights right through to installing micro-renewables or even the construction of a zero emmissions building. If you've got information on how much money you are saving on your energy bills or if you're actually making money by selling electricity back to the grid we'll be all ears.

Back in May the Deputy First Minister, Nicol Stephen MSP announced a boost of funding for communicites and households who want to generate their own energy. The Scottish Community and Householder Renewable Initiative (SCHRI) was awarded £3M over two years (an increase of 60 percent on the previous years funding) to aid those interested in installing micro-renewables.

The SCHRI grants available for householders is set at 30 percent of the installed cost up to a threshold of £4000. Householders can also apply for seperate grants for two different technologies. They can also advise on the types of technology that will best suit your home.

If you'd like to know more about household installation please visit the SCHRI site.

If you are a community interested in the installation of micro-renewables, please have a look at the Community Energy Company's website which can advise on all issues relating to community energy.
