| 20 October 2006 This first issue contains a range of relevant articles, spanning various renewable energy sectors across the Highlands and Islands and the following is a taste for what you can expect in this and future issues. The main article provides an overview of the Talisman Beatrice project, focusing on the challenges involved in delivering the world’s first deepwater wind farm. There is an accompanying feature with some interesting facts about the project and turbine; which if laid flat would be the equivalent of one-and-a-half football pitches. Marine energy enters the limelight with an article about OpenHydro who aim to have Britain’s first grid-connected tidal turbine located at the newly opened tidal test site operated by the European Marine Energy Centre (EMEC). In addition, there are further interesting features which focus on the new hydro-electric scheme in Glendoe, a biomass project in Orkney and a ‘Bulb for a Bulb’ scheme which will surprise everyone in spring.
