Decisions on renewable energy developments should be speeded up, Energy Minister Jim Mather said last night.

Working with the industry, the Scottish Government is looking at setting a target of nine months for new energy applications to be determined, where there is no public inquiry.

Orkney-based EMEC scooped the Best Renewable Innovation Award at the Scottish Renewables Green Energy Awards 2007. The award is in recognition of EMEC's achievement in creating the world's first test facility for tidal energy technologies.

Volunteers are being sought from a community in the Black Isle to try out new waste bin collections.
